Floodplain Meadows Partnership

Great Burnet - Meadow Foxtail (MG4) Distribution

Figure 1: Distribution of Great Burnet- Meadow Foxtail (MG4) grassland. Relative circle sizes indicate relative meadow sizes.

Floodplain meadows are found in the floodplains of rivers in central, southern and north eastern England. The known distribution of the great burnet-meadow foxtail floodplain meadow plant community is shown in the adjacent map.

Other species rich floodplain meadows

Distribution of MG4 grassland and lowland meadows BAP priority habitat (MG4, MG5 and MG8) by 10 km square (reproduced from Rodwell et al. 2007)

The national distribution of lowland marsh marigold - crested dogstail (MG8) and other species-rich communities is not well known. However, it is considered that there is only a small resource of the lowland MG8 community remaining in England, with a larger resource in Scotland. The partnership would like to pool local data to create a national distribution map.
