Natural England and Environment Agency Chairs visit floodplain meadow site

We were delighted to showcase this summer a beautiful floodplain meadow to the Chair of Natural England, Tony Juniper, and the Chair of the Environment Agency, Alan Lovell. Working with The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Northamptonshire we arranged for the Chairs to visit Achurch Meadow, an SSSI in Northamptonshire. There were lots of positive words and support for the role floodplain meadows can play in delivering nature-based solutions and the work the FMP are doing in surveying, research and engagement.

We have followed the visit up with correspondence from both Chairs who support our proposal to build consensus with Defra to develop an action plan to achieve the target of 74,000 ha of meadows and to draft a ‘Scrapes’ guidance note.

Tony Juniper followed up with some excellent social media promotions:

LinkedIn:

Brilliant work from Floodplain Meadows Partnership in science, communications, training & partnership building.   It is evident from their efforts that joint working can take us on a journey to getting a lot of this habitat back, in the process bringing many benefits for the country.

"Wonderful to see Achurch Meadow with @Floodplainmead & @NaturalEngland & @EnvAgency colleagues, & to be reminded of the HUGE importance of such places, for Nature, clean rivers, flood storage, carbon & more. 99% is gone, but massive opportunities for restoration. Let’s do that. https://t.co/8mkUGBr7qa" / X
